User Reviews about Storybook Workshop

I guess I'm old fashioned, but after the novelty wears off there isn't much to hold interest with this game. Personally, I prefer just reading an actual book with the kids and letting the imagination fill out the mental pictures. But hey, if this gets people to read with their kids who otherwise wouldn't then it is a very good thing. In the end, like many Wii titles, it can be fun but is nothing like the real thing.
-- OK for little ones, but doesn't seem to hold long term interest.
I got the Storybook Workshop for my niece and nephew. They like to have sleepovers at my house. They love being read to before bed so I thought they might like this. They sure did. The first time they sat down they played for a few hours. They really love the sing alongs. I just wish they included more. They like them, but it gets a little old for the grownups. They don't make many learning games for children. I would buy another game for them if another came out. -- Great for kids
I have held out reviewing this game for a long time because it seems that the other reviews are so positive. My daughters (7 and 3) were so excited when we took it out of the box and pulled out the microphone. However, after 10 minutes of trying to navigate it, my 7 year old gave up and hasn't returned to it. I have helped my 3 year old play it a few times, but haven't been able to get my 7 year old re-engaged at all. And even my 3 year old rarely asks to play it. Maybe it is because they have electronic books on our computer/iphone/etc that this doesn't hold their attention as much as it does other kids. I am bummed though, because it is an expensive game! -- Frustrating for kids to do on their own
How much enjoyment your kids will get out of this is dependent upon several factors.
1. How old are your kids? We played the game with a 3 and 4 year old. I wouldn't think significantly older children (older than 6) would be interested in this, but just the same, I don't think children younger than 3 would be interested either, but I could be wrong.
2. How tech-savvy are your kids? The children we played the game with had a lot of fun, but these kids don't ordinarily play with or around many tech items, so the microphone itself had huge appeal. If your kids are used to super high-tech, then this might not do it for them, especially considering how low-tech the sound and graphics on this game are. I'm surprised this wasn't released as a stand-alone that you could just hook up to your TV. I guess I expected more from something meant for Wii.

Based on the enjoyment of the 3 and 4 year old, I am giving this 4 stars. If it were based on my enjoyment, I would probably give it a 1 or 2, but I'm not in the age demographic for this product and have decided to put the children's opinion above my own.
