User Reviews about Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition

I really loved this game. I purchased the ultimate Sith edition. All that gives you is all the downloadable content, so if you can't get the sith edition just buy the regular edition. Get the three extra lvls. The costumes really are not that much fun so you don't have to spend that money if you don't want to. The game does have its glitches. All games do, but if you like Star wars then this is a must. SPOILER Alert------How cool is it to kill vader then make Luke your Apprentice for the dark side. -- Loved it!
There is so much that this game does wrong it's down right embarrassing, especially in this day and age. I won't go through all of them, just the ones that annoyed me the most.

The biggest offender in my opinion has to be the unresponsiveness of the controls. I don't mean to boast but I've played and beaten Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Ninja difficulty, God of War 2 on Titan difficulty and Street Fighter Alpha 3 on max speed. Suffice to say, my reflexes are pretty good. So believe me when I say that there is nothing more frustrating than having your mind screaming at you to make a move, having your fingers listen and do the actions, having the Playstation 3 controller input said actions to perfection, but then having your onscreen character fail to register said commands. There are countless occasions where my instincts are yelling at me to block, dodge, jump, attack, etc., but my ridiculously slow character is like "what? Huh? who? where?". For a game as action packed as The Force Unleashed, this is unacceptable.

Adding insult to injury is this thing the game likes to do that I call the "wait your turn" effect (I don't really call it that but there's kids on this site... so...). If anyone has ever played the Star Wars Episode 3 game then they will know what I'm talking about. What this means is, after receiving a hit your character goes through a reaction animation. In other words, he's reacting to the hit/pain. Unfortunately this takes between 2 to 5 seconds to recover from which leaves you vulnerable and open for even more attacks which will of course put you into even more animated pain reaction. 2 to 5 seconds may not sound like a lot but to gamers, that's forever. Does the game extend the same courtesy to the npc's? Nope! Some of them (mainly bosses) can attack you mid combo.

Next on my list is the retard targeting. There were several occasions where I would approach and attack an enemy npc, only to have my character continue the combo in the opposite direction. Aiming on an object you wish to Force throw as well as aiming the object at the enemy is a mixed bag. The game usually gets it right but often it doesn't. There is also the jumping, which feels very stilted and unpredictable. A bit of Infamous's magnetism would have been much appreciated.

Finally, there's the unfairness of the npc's, specifically the bosses. The game decides when and if your attacks should connect and when it should be completely ignored. After taking significant punishment, you finally gain the upper hand in your battle. Unfortunately after 3 or 4 landed hits, the game decides to make the enemy temporarily immortal until he regains his composure and continues to punish you with uninterruptible attacks... nice.

So after all this crap why am I giving this game such a pleasant score. Well... its Star Wars, and yes, I'm a nerd. As frustrating as these problems are, the game is still a relatively enjoyable action game... and it's Star Wars. I have been craving for a game that allowed me to use telekinesis on everyone and everything since Psy-ops and this game delivers. I've wanted to shoot lightning at foes for quite some time and while Infamous was able to satiate this hunger, it just wasn't the same. I've wanted to walk into an enemy filled room with my hood down, calmly ignite my lightsaber, and precede to butcher every Rambo/Terminator wannabe in sight and this game allowed me to do just that.

Last, I wanted a game with relatively high replay value and a ton of unlockable trinkets to play with and boy does this game have them. Multiple Lightsaber colors to fiddle with (including a black crystal), upgradable powers that you can take over into a new game, 20+ skins ranging from Anakin to C-3PO and 3 extra stages, two of which tell a what-if scenario in a universe without Vader.

And all of this for under $40.

So complaints aside, if you're a Star Wars fan, you might want to pick this up. Especially since the last good Jedi simulator I can think of (Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy) is 7 years old.

Unless you count Star Wars Trilogy - Apprentice of the Force for GameBoy Advance... which was awesome.

And Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 doesn't count... I think. -- Embarrassing
To be honest, when this game first came out, I didn't know whether to buy it or not. Being the mild Star Wars fan and the huge gamer I am, I decided to try it. And I was not disappointed. The concept of a secret apprentice was a cool one, but the fact that it was from Darth Vader...not so much.
Now the story is what gets me. Sure Star Wars titles may be a little tired after about 30 years, but it still caught my eye due to the fact that you get to play as a Sith Lord's apprentice. The dark side's always cooler. Anyway, the downfall of the entire game is the story itself. What story, you ask? Exactly. Bad guy gets betrayed by his master, then decides to be a Jedi. Right. Now that sounds dumb as hell. But in general, the gameplay more than makes up for it.
The game was very fun to say the least. One of the best features was the fact that you could upgrade your powers, which is always cool. The best part of it was that you could also personalize your lightsaber, changing its color and powers; along with Starkillers force powers.
All in all, this was the best Star Wars title I've played yet, and I eagerly await the sequel. -- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
I loved this game! I felt a Jedi how the game sucked you in with the story line and narrative. It included a lot of story from the books if you haven't read them than you might be a little confused at times but its not too bad. This game was super fun to play. i finished it in a week in a half on apprentice mode and i wanted it to just keep going and going. However there are 3 other smaller missions you can complete that and to the adventure. The graphics are full, lively and exciting. I played on a ps3, 32 in flat screen w/ surround sound and i wound highly recommend that or higher because this game emphasizes your fight scenes and makes them dramatic and awesome! I played on the easiest level and finished quickly, which was disappointing. So i went back and tried the next level up and it was difficult so there is defiantly a level for every skill set! overall i loved this game and for sure come back to it time and time again! -- Super fun, wish there was more!
