Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

The story follows Harry Mason, who wakes up after a car accident to find that his daughter Cheryl is missing. Harry will wander the snowy streets of Silent Hill searching for answers of her disappearance, but when the world freezes over, he will need to escape the lumbering demons that haunt his steps. Harry will need to navigate both worlds to discover the truth; not just about his missing daughter, but also the type of person he actually is. Silent Hill's debut on the Nintendo Wii makes the fear more real than ever before. Players will be drawn into the mysterious town using the Wii Remote as a flashlight and a cellphone as they search for clues. Choices they make will shape Harry Mason, as well as the people he meets and the places he visits. The enemies evolve as well, taking the form of the player's deepest fears. Silent Hill promises to be more terrifying than ever, bringing the fear to Wii, PS2, and PSP.

User Reviews about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

The game isn't bad, but it isn't that interesting. It's a lot more walking around, and a lot more doing nothing than I remember in the first Silent Hill game. I appreciate that there is no combat, but at times it seems impossible to get through the Nightmare scenes. Even my boyfriend, an avid gamer, has an extremely difficult time with it. If you don't get frustrated easily, it's probably a great game. If you do? I wouldn't bother. -- Doesn't live up to expectations.
It might help you to know outright that I have played every Silent Hill game and am no newcomer to the series.

That being said this has easily jumped to the second best game in the series, Silent Hill 2 being the pinnacle of course.

Silent Hill is less a series of games and more an epilogue of stories and, most importantly, characters. If you like stories about people, places, and experience, then this series delivers. If you are only into combat mechanics, flashy graphics, explosions, and firearms be warned.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories had me completely hooked from the moment I picked it up. The story is engaging, the characters are memorable, and the game is just positively enthralling. In this chapter, the series returns to its roots of conjuring up empathy for what must be the most miserable, and bizarre people you'll ever meet. The atmosphere is dark, foreboding, lonely, and even "feels" cold in the new snow-bound town of Silent Hill.

The game changes and the environment is manipulated based on a psychological profile the games builds about you through psychological tests and through the players game-play tendencies. The tests are not your standard questionnaires and are more like mini puzzles with no "Correct" answer, that leave you analyzing yourself.

There is no combat in this game and that is for good reason. You are experiencing helplessness, terror, and a complete lack of control. The nightmare sequences are all about pursuit and flight rather than fight. We've all had dreams about being chased and unable to get away and this is the embodiment of that fear.

The ending of the game is where you really appreciate the writing and there is that sudden epiphany of complete understanding of all the events you have yet not been able to comprehend that usually only comes with the ending of an under-appreciated indie film.

This is a MUST-OWN for Silent Hill fans, Wii-owners, and people who can appreciate a story that lingers with you long after the adventure ends.

-- Games with character
This game has one huge problem and that is that the chase sequences just aren't any fun. You'll quickly learn to dread the ice that fills the world before the monsters come out, not due to fear but due to frustration. You'll die... a lot. Unlike previous Silent Hill games, the difficulty does not go down once you die, so be prepared to repeat chase sequences over and over again. The monsters change throughout the game depending on your actions, but since you're always running from them you'll probably never have time to take notice.

Luckily the story and exploration sequences are the game's saving grace. The story will keep you guessing until the very end and unlike the original Silent Hill, it actually makes sense! The exploration sequences are fun, which makes me wish the developers had gotten rid of the chase sequences completely and simply made this a pure adventure title. Let's hope Climax listens to the issues people have with this title, since the sequel could be amazing with a few minor adjustments. -- Flawed, but still worth a play-through
This is Silent Hill we are talking about! Not some unknown game like cursed mountain. How can Konami only put one monster in it (even if the monster changes to how you play the game.) I felt like I was playing the same thing over and over. While there were really great parts, and it was fun overall, they could have done SO much better. It was a bit of a disappointment. -- too repetitive
This game is in one word, Genious!

A lot of people rated this game low that I know or read,

The game is fantastic! It lets you get into the game, you pick the colors, the paths , the phone calls, you literally steer YOURSELF, as the character into the sinister world of Silent Hill,

At first I thought that "Any big game releases on the Wii would be hard to control or have lame graphics" but i was soo wrong! The graphics are amazing (I thought) and the story was awesome!

I found myself terrified as "The nightmares" chase you around in the game,

Overall it was AMAZING!

Just get in the "I love scary things" mood, dim the lights and play, it was INSANE! -- Immerse yourself in the world of Silent Hill
