User Reviews about Aliens vs. Predator

I keep seeing negative reviews for this game(why?). I have played AVP when it was released in 1999 and I have recently played this one (though only the predator mission because I'm a predator fan) and I can honestly say this is the better game. Rebellion studios has done a tremendous job with this game and should be commended. The graphics are very nice but the aspect that I enjoy about this game is its controls. You can control the predator very well and be just as stealthy and deadly as the predator is in the movies. Yes, there are some very gruesome things you can do in this game including trophy hunt (removing skulls and spines both in a finishing kill and after the fact though only the skull once something is dead.)

The storyline is very intriguing and I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I don't see very many good titles on the PC nowadays, but this is one of them. You get an awful lot of interactions and some insights to the predators in this game (i enjoyed the historical videos and the temple of "victory over the serpents". I highly recommend this game to predator fans or just horror fans. Also, the software is very well written and runs very smoothly (my comp specs are 3Ghz processor with 4gb of ram and 1gb graphics card).

You have the ability to stalk humans and androids and there is one area where you can hunt humans (who can't see you and don't know your there) through some ruins in a temple. The aliens are not as fun to fight because they are always attacking you (regardless if your cloaked or not) and this becomes annoying after awhile.

I also enjoyed some of the "realism". In the first predator movie when he walks through water, it disrupts his cloaking field. The same is true in this game. If you walk or fall into water, your cloak will fail and you will be spotted. The jumping is also very nice as it make you a formidable foe to the human and android AIs. It was amusing to be leaping around some unsuspecting foes and hear them shout "I got movement!" or "Something's right on top of us!". A con might be the fact that your plasma caster uses so much energy. However, the cloak uses almost none which is an improvement from the first game.

I have very little negative to say about this game and given that I had a short break this summer, it was very nice to have some time to play a game all the way through. I also think the timing is just right with the Predators movie being released this summer.

Bottom line, if your're a fan of the Predator movies and would like to step into a predators shoes for awhile, this game is worth the meager 30 bucks. -- Why all the hate?
Fun : 5/5 Stars
Graphics : 5/5 stars
Story : 5/5
Gameplay 2/5
Mapping 3/5
Difficulty 6/5
Multilayer(Xbox live) 4/5

Let me say a synopsis;

Xenomorph : Easy as hell, no challenge at all. FUN FUN FUN.

Marine : Frustrating. In the marine campaign you die at point blank range of killing a xenomorph. The game has lost one star because of the lack of armor from the previous game that could have substituted as protection against the Xenomorphs molecular acid at point blank. Also why use flares instead of the conventional flashlight? Also the game's Zero Checkpoints on Nightmare Difficulty is stupid and unnecessary. Stupid being that it builds way too much tension. Also for those of you who don't know Zero Checkpoints means it means that if you die you start over from point A of the level, saves are also disabled in the Nightmare. The game-play requires way to much "Hit-and-run" tactics and accuracy. Which makes the Marine Campaign unfun. But predator.

Predator : Easy/Frustrating. The marines are easy as hell, Pop stealth get behind them. Fire your laser, Distract. Easy. The XenoMorph's however are Easy/frustrating depending on the difficulty. At the beginning of the level you have two claws as melee. With Practice you can knock them on the ground, grab and lay a finishing move on them which equals Fun. The xenomorphs's are a pain however when on Hard or Nightmare difficulty. Being that you can never knock them down for a finishing move EVER. There is really a lot of strategy to beat them on at the first 3/6 Levels. The game however gets Easier once you get the Disc blade thing, and the spear. Which you can one shot them. Also you don't need to worry about dieing at point blank range from the Xeno's Molecular acid because of the Predator's armor, which makes the predator more fun then the marine campaign.

Consensus: The gameplay is Fun/Easy/Challenging for the most part. But for the Marine Campaign Sega could have tried harder with the mapping and gameplay. -- Xenomorph Easy, Zero Checkpoints + Marine/Predator Campaigns = Frustrating.
